IREX
International Research Exchange Program
IREX programs
help to create the basis for self-sustaining progress in the New
Independent States. IREX programs for specialists and scholars from
the strengthen local capabilities and academic research. For its
programs, IREX draws on US and indigenous academic, policy, and
professional communities, including over 5000 US and NIS alumni
spanning over 30 years of IREX programs. With its many regional
field offices and representatives IREX serves each country in the
NIS region according to its distinct needs through knowledgeable
field staff.
IREX work in partnership to administer the Freedom Support Act (FSA)
in Contemporary Issues and the Regional Scholar Exchange Program
with the NIS. USIA develops, funds, supervises and oversees the
program and IREX administer and implement all aspects of the program
including recruitment, placement, orientation, and follow on activities
for NIS participants. Collaboration on the RSEP and FSA Fellowships
in Contemporary issues builds upon a long history of successful
USIA-IREX-Kennan Institute joint activities and will provide program
alumni with enhanced professional opportunities and follow-on activities
in the NIS.
The IREX administrated scholarship and fellowship programs include
the research fields on Social and Humanitarian sciences and also
Environmental sciences, such as Environmental protection, Nuclear
safety, oil and gas industry, Environmental studies, Urban studies
and planning , etc.
In Azerbaijan there are about 40 IREX -alumni on CI and RSEP. Among
them 4 -alumni has conducted researches in field of Environmental
protection. The list of IREX-alumni on Environmental science have

since 1999. The Environment Protection is among the priority subjects.
